Oacis Care Continuity Module to be Deployed at Medical University of South Carolina
TELUS Health Solutions helps MUSC to Aggregate and Share Patient Records Community-wide
Montreal, PQ, March 3, 2010 – TELUS Health Solutions announced today that the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC), Charleston, SC, will deploy the care continuity module of the company’s hallmark Oacis data aggregation solution.
“The entire team at MUSC has been a terrific collaboration partner of ours for many years,” said TELUS Health’s Marc Filion, Chief Operating Officer and General Director. “They were the first site to deploy our data aggregation solution, Oacis, in 1993, and now MUSC is the first US site to implement our care continuity capability throughout the Charleston area.”
Often referred to as “discharge summary,” by TELUS customers in Australia and Canada, this innovative communications vehicle was developed several years prior to the HL7-specification for the Continuity of Care Document (CCD). Engineered specifically for practitioners, this flexible Oacis module enables easy and fast creation of a portable care record. It can be printed for the patient, automatically faxed or emailed to another provider, or transmitted as an HL7 message and subsequently stored in EMRs that can accept in-bound documents or messages.
“For about sixteen years we’ve been using the Oacis clinical data repository and viewer to fully aggregate patient records from our numerous disparate systems. To a large degree, Oacis is our core electronic health record (EHR) throughout the entire medical campus,” said MUSC’s Director of Enterprise IT Architecture, Mark Daniels. “The Oacis continuity tool enables our physicians to rapidly communicate key aspects of the patient record with practitioners outside of MUSC’s facilities. The result will be improved care quality, increased patient safety, as well as reduced costs community wide,” concluded Mr. Daniels.”

About Oacis
The Oacis family of EHR solutions provides healthcare organizations and entire regions with a flexible Health Integration Platform. Based on a breakthrough open-architecture design, and including an integration gateway, an EMPI, and gold-standard CDR, Oacis is ideally suited for data aggregation.
Oacis’ built-in interoperability, scalability, and configurability enable several flexible deployment modes. For multi-site delivery organizations (and/or HIEs) that require a shared longitudinal perspective, the Oacis Unified Patient Record option provides all the benefits of a web-based clinical portal with the advantages of comprehensive data integration. The Oacis Health Information Exchange (HIE) option, enables disparate entities access to key patient information while at the same time protecting data ownership. For sites that wish to add-on advanced clinical capabilities such as computerized practitioner order entry (CPOE), clinical documentation, and ED tracking, Oacis can be deployed as a cost effective clinical EMR; whereby the vast majority of existing IT investments can stay intact. Furthermore, the optional Oacis Health Data Warehouse application provides administrators as well as researchers and clinicians with sophisticated BI/Analytic tools; all from a common platform.
