In the latest TELUS Mental Health Index (MHI) report for Singapore, we examine how workplace culture shapes three significant challenges facing HR leaders today: working while unwell, talent retention and access to mental health support.

Working while unwell is more common than most organisations realise:

  • 69 per cent of workers in Singapore report showing up while mentally or physically unwell at least once a week.
  • Workers who show up unwell twice a week lose 2x more working days annually than those who say they never do.

The cost of losing talent starts before the resignation:

  • 53 per cent of Singaporean workers are considering leaving or uncertain about staying.
  • Workers actively considering leaving lose 21 more days of productivity per year than those who aren't.

Cost is the greatest barrier to mental health support in Singapore:

  • More than half of Singaporean workers cite cost or affordability as the primary barrier to accessing mental health support.
  • Removing the cost barrier can help recover up to 24 working days per employee annually.
