Drawing from 5 New Zealand surveys conducted quarterly in 2024 and early 2025, this resource offers leaders a clear picture of workplace challenges over time and how to address them.

Key trends and findings 

Mental health in the workplace remains an area of concern

  • 41 per cent of workers in New Zealand face constant stress.
  • More than one-third of the working population remains at high mental health risk.

Mental health has a significant effect on workplace productivity

  • 33 per cent of workers in New Zealand reported that their mental health was negatively impacting productivity at work.
  • Younger workers are particularly affected, with 43 per cent of Gen Zers and 39 per cent of Millennials admitting to this issue. 

A positive workplace culture fosters engagement and retention

  • Highly engaged employees report 70 per cent higher wellbeing compared to their less engaged counterparts.
  • 36 per cent of employees in New Zealand would prefer better support for their wellbeing over a 10 per cent salary increase.
